Since 1914, when Congress authorized Cooperative
Extension (CE) in each state, CSU-CE has provided the primary link
between the university and the citizens of the state of Colorado. With
representation in each of Colorado's 64 counties, Cooperative Extension
makes unbiased research, information and the expertise of CSU faculty
available to Coloradoans, particularly in rural and agricultural
regions. The state is our campus. The Department of Agricultural and
Resource Economics is active in extension and outreach educational and
applied research efforts throughout the state. We are committed to
providing practical solutions to real problems. About one half of our
faculty have time committed to CE and all faculty have outreach
responsibility. DARE also encourages opportunities for
extension-oriented graduate projects. Examples of DARE Outreach and
Extension program emphases include: farm management, enterprise,
livestock and agricultural budgeting, risk management, economic
diversification, value-added agriculture, agricultural and natural
resource policy, agricultural marketing, finance, and cooperatives,
rural community development, public lands management, land-use planning
tools, and strategic planning.
